Online experiment - Posted: 11/05/2012
Hello together,

I run as part of my thesis in psychology at the University of Göttingen, an internet experiment on "Perception of complex image content," by and I am interested above all for the opinions of WoW-Spieler/Innen.

I can very well imagine that you hang out the many requests to participate in surveys already to his neck. I would still be delighted if you join in with my Internet experiment and supported me in my thesis! The whole thing will last only about 15 minutes.

I am doing in my work not my intention, WoW or (M) general MORPGs to somehow negative niche. On the contrary - I have been a good 10 years of online gamers (Diablo II, Counter-Strike, Lord of the Rings Online) and now am interested in how the habitual use of complex graphic affects the processing of images.

Die einzige Voraussetzung zur Teilnahme ist, dass ihr aktiv WoW spielt oder dies über längere Zeit (>One years have done). If you are interested I can tell you after completing my survey in June / July also like to tell more about the contents and goals of my work.

Here is the link to the experiment:

Thank you very much for your attention and best regards,

Hans Gehrke

And the end of it: gamers are emotional cripples ... right? ^ ^

To all students of this world:
PLEASE you another game addiction as a target, all the time WoW is really boring
We were here in the forum probably already five surveys / studies on the game.

Oh yeah - not a "gamer" writes from LOTRO really ... just as little tip.

Any skepticism as questionnaires, surveys and experiments regarding WoW and other MMORPGs or other games, given the unfair and often exaggerated negative dealings with them, especially in the media but also often in science, of course, more than understandable, no question. The more natural when it comes to "psychological" studies. For that I must have absolute understanding and so I (unfortunately) live, but I have in my letter indeed been noted.

However, I have formulated the aim and content of the question of my work and express emotion is crippled because really no question, especially since it myself If I had one then

That would of course also possible and interesting, no doubt, but WoW is still the most popular, best-known and still most widespread representatives of MMORPGs. For this reason there is WoW, unlike other games, even some basic research, based on which one can derive and investigate their own questions. Anyone interested in an overview of recent studies and results, which I can recommend the following page:
Cyberpsychology: Journal of Psychosocial Research on Cyberspace

When I say basic, I mean, moreover, not (only) searches and depression-related issues, which it undoubtedly is in heaps, but above all resource-related. There are, for example, interesting studies on MMORPGs as a possible media platform for teaching and learning.

These gamers should give it
I admit that I have "LOTRO" is not really played a long time. However, since you obviously have doubts about my "gamer-existence", I can understand the rest, I offer thee but to love, to my Steam account adden to my CS: S statistics view. Furthermore, I still hold even after 6 years of my three Diablo II LoD account (* cid2sk8, cid2skate *, * cid2mule) upright for nostalgic reasons, but not because of gambling, but because of the years invested extensively audited period.

My point is that I have any skepticism about polls, etc. can understand completely about WoW and other games because of the many negative experiences. Nevertheless, I am happy that I have the opportunity to be able to write my thesis on a topic which I was not really interested and I simply pressed. How much trust to give the player / Inside my questions, and request to participate, but I can not influence, but the fact is that I am over all participation really huge, because it brings me a whole lot more.

Best regards,

Hans

That's an interesting theory, but why should serve and above all, how would that work?

If you are you should have seen my experiment, you knew that I list any personal information and the participation of both anonymous and completely voluntary and may also be canceled at any time.

I can only reiterate that the skepticism regarding my work, although very sad, but also for me is completely understandable. To counteract the perhaps a bit, I add this post to link to the side of the department of the University of Goettingen, the care of me in my work. If necessary I can make you happy and phone number and address of me and my services are available.

EDIT:
To the skepticism about the link to my experiment to defuse perhaps something that is also the home of Prof. Dr. Ulf-Dietrich Reips (founder of WEXTOR tools for creating online experiments) that hosts my experiment and helped me in preparing has.

It should also be absolutely no charge. I can understand the skepticism indeed really good, but I would try gleichezitig course, this is about my work as best seen in context.

Because such a "Blizzard-mail" I have a few years ago, when I was young and innocent, lost in the rest time one of my Diablo II Battle.net accounts. Fortunately, only the less important ...
